Chery Tiggo dominated Galeries Tower in the PVL All-Filipino Conference, but what caught the attention of Crossovers deputy coach KungFu Reyes was the performance of Dimdim Pacres. Pacres, facing off against her former college coach and teammates Eya and EJ Laure, led the Highrisers’ valiant fight in the third set, finishing with 11 points. Despite the loss, Reyes was thrilled to see Pacres back in action and expressed his happiness for her return to the sport.
“I’m happy for her because she’s back,” Reyes said. “Not only does she have the opportunity to earn additional income, but she also gets to play the sport she loves and build a continuous career as a professional player.” Reyes commended Pacres for her resilience, revealing that he had constantly motivated her during her four-year hiatus from the sport. Pacres had suffered from depression after failed attempts by some companies to recruit her.
Reyes admitted that he was initially concerned when he heard from the Laure sisters that Pacres was out of shape during their visit to Cebu. He emphasized the importance of taking care of oneself and staying fit, even when not actively playing, to prevent illness. Despite the challenges Pacres faced, Reyes was pleased that she listened and worked hard to earn her spot back on the team. He reminded her that success doesn’t come overnight and encouraged her to take it one step at a time.
In the match against Chery Tiggo, Pacres proved to be a formidable opponent, particularly in the third set. Reyes instructed his players to stay patient and read Pacres’ movements and attacks. Although she might not have been in peak physical condition, Pacres displayed her natural talent and determination to score and lead. Reyes referred to her strong attacks as the “Boom Pacres” they knew and respected.
Although Reyes and Pacres are now on different teams, the veteran coach still hopes the best for his former player. He expressed his desire to see more of Pacres before the conference comes to an end and encouraged her to continue reducing her weight to unlock her full potential.
Overall, the return of Dimdim Pacres to the Premier Volleyball League has been a source of happiness and inspiration for both her former coach and teammates, paving the way for a bright future in her professional career.
