Valve’s Proton receives update to prepare for the release of Tekken 8, along with some interesting fixes for other games.
The closed beta for Tekken 8, despite its unfortunate name change, is still on its way. Valve has released a hotfix for Proton to ensure that beta participants can connect to online matches on the Steam Deck.
Proton is Valve’s translation layer for Linux, allowing Windows apps to run seamlessly. It receives regular updates, and Valve is known for its targeted fixes for specific games. In the previous update, they successfully fixed Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, a game that had been broken since its launch.

As an example, a strange issue that affected players of Old School Runescape and other games on systems with 128 or more virtual cores has been resolved. Furthermore, support for niche expensive simulation hardware like the Virpil Constellation ALPHA-R has been added.
Forza Horizon 5 has also been fixed, as a game update rendered it unplayable on Linux systems even with Proton.

The recent update also brings some love to Cyberpunk 2077, as Proton now supports DualSense controllers. Previously, the game would crash if the controller was plugged in after a patch was released.

Proton & Steam Deck Receive Numerous Fixes in Latest Update
Valve often has to address compatibility issues caused by game developers updating their games in a way that may break Proton support. Although Linux players make up a small percentage of Steam’s user base, these updates are crucial to the success of the Steam Deck and Linux gaming as a whole.
The Steam Deck has received other fixes and updates besides Proton. Additional control options have been introduced, resolving previous issues with joystick emulation through the gyroscope, such as problems with horizontal, vertical, and inversion settings.
