This comment came as a response to DeSantis’ criticism of a new Illinois state law that allows non-citizens to serve as police officers.
Pritzker defended his decision to sign the bill into law, which permits legal permanent residents and DACA recipients in Illinois to become police officers. He argued that this move aligns with the military’s practice and is the right thing to do, despite the spread of misinformation by right-wing individuals.
DeSantis had denounced Pritzker for signing the law, claiming that it disregards the importance of citizenship. He emphasized Florida’s approach to combatting the border crisis and emphasized the value they place on citizen officers who protect their communities. DeSantis vowed to restore American sovereignty and stated that the idea of allowing illegal aliens to have authority over citizens is a concerning reflection of the state of the country.
