Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Spotify partnership disappoints as it ends prematurely after one series

Spotify and Archewell Audio, the podcast production company owned by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have ended their commercial partnership after completing just one podcast series.

On Thursday, Spotify and Archewell Audio announced their mutual decision to part ways, expressing pride in the series they created together without providing further details on the reasons for the split.

This partnership comes to an end less than a year after the debut of Markle’s podcast, “Archetypes,” which explored the challenges faced by women. Featured guests included Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, and Mindy Kaling.

At the time of the debut, Dawn Ostroff, Spotify’s chief content and advertising business officer, praised Prince Harry and Meghan as global citizens who aimed to amplify underrepresented voices through their work.

Spotify initially announced an exclusive “multiyear partnership” with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in December 2020, focusing on the production of podcasts and shows that would entertain and inspire their vast audience.

Harry and Meghan also have a multiyear deal with Netflix to create children’s programming, documentaries, feature films, and scripted shows.

The couple stepped away from their royal duties in 2020, forfeiting their share of the British Crown’s estimated $34 billion estate. Their combined net worth, as estimated by Forbes, is $10 million, including Harry’s inheritance from Princess Diana and their equity in their California mansion.
