President’s questionable ethics revealed by poll on Hunter Biden probes

Ethical Concerns Cast Shadow Over President Joe Biden as Re-election Looms

As President Joe Biden seeks re-election, ethical concerns are looming large amidst investigations into his son Hunter and an impeachment inquiry. According to a poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, 35% of U.S. adults believe that President Biden himself has engaged in illegal activities. Another 33% think that he has acted unethically but not illegally, while 30% believe that he has done nothing wrong.

The survey highlights a deep political divide and skepticism surrounding the morality of government leaders. House Republicans have initiated an impeachment inquiry against Biden in an attempt to connect him to his son’s foreign business dealings. Hunter Biden is currently facing a separate criminal indictment. While questions have been raised about the ethics of the Biden family’s international business, no evidence has been presented thus far to prove that Joe Biden, in his current or previous office, has misused his position or accepted bribes.

The findings of the survey indicate a political system in the U.S. riddled with cynicism and suspicion. People’s judgment of Joe Biden appears to be heavily influenced by their political affiliations rather than the known facts. Approximately two-thirds of Republicans believe that Joe Biden is guilty of crimes related to his son, compared to only 8% of Democrats and 38% of independents. Similarly, a significant portion of each party believes that Joe Biden has acted unethically to some extent. However, a majority of Democrats (58%) believe that the president has done nothing wrong.

The poll also reveals a prevailing sense of corruption within the federal government among the respondents. Many believe that the political class, consumed by greed and corruption, neglects the needs of the country. This perspective contradicts Biden’s message of optimism about a government that is investing in infrastructure, new factories, and renewable energy sources.

The survey interviewed several respondents who feel that Joe Biden has personally benefited from his son’s work abroad, citing the evidence presented thus far. However, opinions are divided, and some voters view Biden’s actions as those of a concerned parent rather than unethical behavior. These voters feel that the investigation into his business dealings is excessive and a waste of time and money.

Americans are slightly more likely to disapprove (39%) than approve (33%) of the House impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden. Terry Kilgore, a 75-year-old lawyer from Ohio, believes that Biden has acted ethically by respecting the authority of the Justice Department. He views the impeachment efforts by Republican lawmakers as a thirst for power.

Overall, the impeachment inquiry seems to have had little impact on Biden’s job approval. Approximately 4 in 10 Americans approve of how Joe Biden is handling the presidency, while 61% disapprove. His approval ratings have consistently remained low over the past two years, with concerns about his age and competency also raised. However, supporters like Shae Rouzan from California would still vote for Biden again in 2024, given the alternatives.

While Biden receives relatively high marks for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, his approval ratings are low for his management of the economy, the federal budget, and student debt. Despite these challenges, voters such as Oakley Graham appreciate Biden’s values and actions, such as his support for striking autoworkers.
