Marion Deichmann, now 91 years old, was just nine when her mother, Alice Deichmann, was arrested in the Vél’ d’Hiv round-up in Paris during World War II. Alice was sent to a concentration camp and was later confirmed to have been taken to Auschwitz and murdered. For many years, Marion found it difficult to discuss her experiences, but now she has collaborated with director Darren Emerson on a virtual reality documentary called Letters from Drancy to bring her story to life. The film will be shown at the London Film Festival and uses innovative technology to create an immersive experience. Marion hopes that by sharing her mother’s story, she can prevent such atrocities from happening again.
