The volunteers experienced a significant decrease in blood sugar levels after four weeks of consuming kombucha, while the other drink had no effect.

However, it’s important to note that these results are based on analysis of only seven individuals within the study, indicating the need for further research.

Animal studies suggest that kombucha may increase the presence of beneficial gut bacteria, which can impact metabolism and blood sugar levels.

Co-author of the study, Dr. Dan Merenstein from Georgetown University, states, “To our knowledge, this is the first clinical trial examining the effects of kombucha in people with diabetes. A lot more research needs to be done, but this is very promising.”

The study involved participants consuming both kombucha and a non-kombucha drink, with an eight-week break in between. This allowed for a direct comparison of the effects of both drinks on the same individual, considering their typical diet and lifestyle.
