Post-championship comments from Noah Lyles annoy NBA stars

Noah Lyles, following his victories in the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 4×100-meter races at the world championships in Budapest, Hungary, last week, has become the first man since Usain Bolt to achieve this remarkable triple.

During a post-victory interview, Lyles shared his dissatisfaction with NBA players using the title of “world champion” after winning the NBA Finals.

“What bothers me the most is seeing ‘world champion’ across the heads of NBA Finals winners. World champion of what? Just the United States?” Lyles exclaimed.

“Don’t get me wrong, I love the U.S., but it doesn’t encompass the entire world. We are the world. We have athletes from almost every country here, competing and proudly representing their nations. There are no national flags in the NBA,” he added.

It didn’t take long for Lyles’ provocative statement to catch the attention of NBA superstars.

Kevin Durant, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and world championship gold medalist, and his Phoenix Suns teammate Devin Booker, who won a gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Games, were among the prominent players who expressed their displeasure on social media.
