Porsche Ventures into the Boat Industry with the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air
Porsche, the iconic German car manufacturer, is expanding its horizons and entering the boat business. In collaboration with Austrian luxury boat maker Frauscher, Porsche has unveiled the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air – an extraordinary electric boat powered by the same powertrain as the upcoming Macan EV.
The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is based on Frauscher’s 858 Fantom Air, but the similarities end there. Porsche has integrated its all-new Premium Platform Electric EV components into this stunning boat. This includes a high voltage lithium-ion battery and a powerful permanently excited synchronous electric motor, generating a remarkable 500 kilowatts (or 536 horsepower) of power.
One of the key highlights of the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is its DC fast charging capability. With a charging capacity of 250 kW, the battery can be rapidly charged from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes. The boat’s range, however, will vary depending on your speed preferences. If you prefer a leisurely cruise, Porsche claims you can travel at 22 knots (approximately 23 mph) for an hour, covering around 28 miles. Alternatively, if you switch between low and high speeds, you can expect two to three hours of travel. Keep in mind that utilizing the Sport mode will significantly reduce your range.
As befits a luxury boat, the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air offers sophisticated accommodations. It comfortably accommodates up to nine passengers and features a lounge area with two sunbathing pads. Additionally, it boasts amenities such as a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth stereo system, LED ambient lighting, LED underwater lighting, and a 12-inch multifunction display for the driver’s cockpit.
Owning one of these exclusive boats will come at a price. Porsche plans to produce only 25 first editions, with a starting price of €561,700 (approximately $595,000 based on current exchange rates). These limited editions are expected to be available in early 2024.
