Politicians Rally for Taylor Swift to Delay LA Concerts in Support of Striking Hotel Workers

California’s lieutenant governor, Eleni Kounalakis, along with other elected officials, is calling on Taylor Swift to postpone her Los Angeles concerts as a show of support for striking hotel workers. In an open letter, they highlight how Swift’s concerts generate significant revenue for hotels in the region, leading to inflated prices. Meanwhile, many hotel workers, including housekeepers, struggle financially and are unable to afford housing near their jobs, resulting in some sleeping in their cars and facing the risk of homelessness.

The letter emphasizes that the hotel workers are fighting for their livelihoods and a living wage. They have taken the courageous step of going on strike and are now reaching out to Swift for her support. By postponing her concerts, Swift would demonstrate her solidarity with these workers who are demanding fair treatment and better working conditions.

The plea comes as Swift is scheduled to perform six sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium near Los Angeles starting Thursday. As of now, there has been no response from Swift’s representatives regarding the letter.

The strike is being led by Unite Here Local 11, a union representing approximately 30,000 hotel workers. The union is advocating for improved wages, better healthcare benefits, increased pension contributions, and reduced workloads. Contracts for more than 60 hotels, including major chains like Marriott and Hilton, expired last month.

Lt. Gov. Kounalakis, a Democrat who has expressed her intention to run for governor in 2026, is the highest-ranking state official to support the hotel workers’ cause. Interestingly, she has previously attended one of Swift’s concerts during the Eras tour in Santa Clara, California.

The letter has garnered signatures from various elected officials, including mayors of several cities, Assembly Majority Leader Issac Bryan, and state senators Dave Min and Maria Elena Durazo.

Through postponing her concerts, Taylor Swift would not only alleviate the financial burden on hotel workers but also send a powerful message of solidarity and compassion to support their fight for fair treatment and better working conditions.
