Man Suffers Multiple Face Fractures and Severe Bleeding After Baseball Bat Attack
A Lincoln man was brutally assaulted on Wednesday, resulting in four fractures to his face and significant bleeding, as confirmed by court documents. The accused, Zackery Niedt, 32, was taken into custody on Thursday night around 5:30 p.m. The victim, who was previously friends with Niedt, recounted the incident to the authorities.
The assault occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of 53rd Street. The victim, on his way home from work, noticed Niedt parking his truck nearby. As the victim attempted to pass Niedt, an exchange of words took place, leading the victim to approach Niedt. Niedt then grabbed a metal baseball bat from his truck and struck the victim on the left side of his head before fleeing the scene.
When law enforcement arrived at the site, they found the victim covered in blood with a head injury. He was immediately taken to Bryan West Campus for medical treatment. Niedt has been charged with first-degree assault and using a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony. His bond has been set at $20,000, requiring a payment of $2,000 for his release.
