Police Identify Woman Killed by Police in Tarzana while Wielding Dumbbell

A woman, 35 years old, was identified on Tuesday as the individual who was wielding a metal dumbbell bar and allegedly assaulted four people before being fatally shot by the police in Tarzana. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to numerous calls regarding a suspect wielding a deadly weapon in the area of Reseda Boulevard and Hatteras Street around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. The suspect, identified as Jessica Brown by the Los Angeles County Medical-Examiner’s office, attacked four victims on Reseda using a metal pipe, causing serious head and face injuries. Upon arrival at the scene, the officers encountered Brown near the parking lot of a gas station at Reseda and Burbank boulevards, as reported by the LAPD.

As the officer approached, Brown advanced towards them with the pipe in hand. In response, the officers utilized a Taser, a 40mm foam baton round, and ultimately fired their weapons, resulting in Brown’s death. The metal pipe was discovered to be a metal dumbbell bar, measuring approximately 14 inches in length,” stated the police in a released statement.

Brown was immediately transported to the hospital by paramedics but was declared dead. Two of the victims who were injured in the assault remain in stable condition in the hospital, while the officers involved in the incident sustained no injuries, according to the police.

Further investigation revealed that Brown was also the suspect in attacks on four other individuals the previous day. According to the police, “A mother and child, who were sitting in a parked vehicle, had their windows smashed by the suspect. Additionally, two males were struck by a similar weapon, with one sustaining a cut to the head and the other to the arm. Both individuals declined medical treatment.”
