She believes that the creation of value for recycled plastic could incentivize more responsible disposal. Andersen noted that it is the responsibility of both businesses and governments to reduce plastic pollution, while also encouraging consumers to make more conscious choices. The recent prioritization of plastic pollution on the international agenda has been largely driven by popular demand, according to Andersen. She sees industry as an essential stakeholder in developing solutions. While plastic will continue to be a necessary material for certain products, the unsustainable use of single-use plastic must be addressed.
