Pilots from Globe Incorporate GSMA ESG Metrics for Mobile in Philippines

In a proactive move to enhance sustainability practices and transparency in the mobile sector, Globe, a leading digital solutions platform, has become the first GSMA member in the Philippines to pilot-test the groundbreaking GSMA ESG Metrics for Mobile. This innovative Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting framework simplifies and harmonizes disclosures specific to the mobile industry, while also complementing universal reporting standards. Developed by GSMA in collaboration with 20 mobile operators representing 45% of the world’s mobile connections, this framework aims to facilitate the monitoring and comparability of ESG performance across the industry.

Yoly Crisanto, Globe Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer, expressed the company’s support for GSMA in its call for the adoption of this framework. She proudly announced that Globe is among one of the first GSMA members to pilot-test the new ESG Metrics for Mobile in their 2022 Globe Integrated Report. As the first reporting framework of its kind in the mobile sector, it showcases Globe’s commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices. Crisanto emphasized that the use of common industry Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) addressing critical aspects of their operations will increase consistency, transparency, and contribute to the overall improvement of the mobile industry.

The GSMA ESG Metrics for Mobile includes 10 industry KPIs that empower operators to measure and improve their ESG performance in vital areas such as the environment, digital inclusion, digital integrity, and supply chain. These metrics align with or adopt from international ESG reporting frameworks and standards whenever possible.

John Giusti, Chief Regulatory Officer at the GSMA, highlighted the increasing importance of ESG performance for investors, customers, and employees. He praised the mobile sector for striving to be at the forefront of meaningful ESG reporting with the GSMA ESG Metrics for Mobile Framework. Giusti applauded Globe’s leadership in joining other leading operators in driving positive change by using these new metrics as the foundation of their ESG strategy.

Globe’s 2022 Integrated Report, utilizing this reporting framework, emphasizes key aspects such as the coverage of their mobile network, affordability of subscriptions, digital skills programs, and efforts to enhance online safety. Guided by the principles of respected organizations such as the International Integrated Reporting Council (IR) Framework, Global Reporting Initiative, Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Principles, and SEC recommendations, Globe’s Integrated Report is a comprehensive and transparent account of their sustainability initiatives.
