Perris Woman Confesses to Murdering Her Newborn – Swift Justice Prevails

A 33-year-old woman from Perris, Brittany Suzanne Peevyhouse, has pleaded guilty to child cruelty and other offenses after she killed her newborn son and dumped him in a trash bin. As part of a plea agreement with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, Peevyhouse admitted to the abuse count, along with sentence-enhancing allegations of inflicting great bodily injury and perpetrating an offense against a vulnerable victim. The murder charge against her was dropped in exchange for her admissions.

During a hearing at the Riverside Hall of Justice, Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Prevost certified the terms of the plea deal and imposed a sentence of 12 years in state prison. However, due to incarceration credits for time served in county jail and state-mandated credits aimed at reducing prison overcrowding, Peevyhouse’s effective term of imprisonment was reduced to just over eight years.

Peevyhouse’s arrest in October 2021 followed a nine-month-long investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department into the death of the infant, referred to in court documents as “Damion R.” Passers-by discovered the newborn in the 1700 block of Goetz Road near Ellis Avenue. The child had been discarded in the trash and was found alive on January 22, prompting a call to 911.

An autopsy determined that the child had not been stillborn but had died of trauma. The specific details of the trauma were not disclosed. While both parents were involved in the incident, only Peevyhouse was taken into custody. The identity of the father was not provided, and he was not charged in connection with the case.

Peevyhouse had no prior felony or misdemeanor convictions in Riverside County.
