Parolee Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting of Woman in Apparent Domestic Incident

An individual who was previously on parole and is suspected of committing a fatal shooting in Pasadena, which the police believe to be a case of domestic violence, has been apprehended and is now in custody as of Tuesday.

The Pasadena Police Department received a report of gunshots in the 200 block of South Raymond Avenue, near Del Mar Boulevard, at 10:02 a.m. on Monday. Lieutenant Monica Cuellar, the press information officer for the department, provided this information.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the lifeless body of Jamila Elysse Moss, a 34-year-old Pasadena resident, outside an apartment complex. Moss was unresponsive and pronounced dead on-site, according to Cuellar.

Officers swiftly identified a specific apartment unit within the complex associated with the victim. They established a perimeter around the complex and confirmed that the suspect was barricaded inside the apartment unit, said Cuellar.

Both the Pasadena and Glendale police departments dispatched SWAT teams and crisis negotiators to the scene of the shooting, added Cuellar.

After several hours, which involved negotiations, Guary Lonnie Shuford III, a 32-year-old resident of Los Angeles, surrendered to SWAT officers without any resistance, said Cuellar.

Cuellar mentioned that Shuford had a prior conviction for robbery and is currently on parole.

As a precautionary measure, the Metro A (Blue) Line rail service was temporarily halted between the Fillmore and Memorial Park stations, and buses were rerouted away from the area.

Those with any information regarding the shooting are encouraged to contact the Pasadena Police Department at 626-744-4241. Individuals who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.

Cuellar informed City News Service that this homicide is the second of the year in Pasadena. In 2022, there were a total of seven homicides in Pasadena.
