Paolo Nutini Nominated for Prestigious Scottish Album of the Year Award

Paolo Nutini Releases Highly Anticipated Fourth Album Last Night In The Bittersweet

After an impressive eight-year hiatus from the music industry, Scottish singer Paolo Nutini returned in July 2022 with his highly anticipated fourth album Last Night In The Bittersweet. Nutini made history at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro venue last year when he became the first artist to sell out five shows in a row.

Nutini’s exceptional talent was also recognized in 2015 when he was shortlisted for the prestigious Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award for his third album Caustic Love. In response to the nomination, Nutini humbly expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you for the kind nomination. It feels nice to know the record is resonating out there and to be in the company of some of my favorite records to come out this year. It means a lot. Thank you and much love.”

The SAY Award longlist features a range of talented acts including The Snuts from West Lothian with their album Burn The Empire, and Edinburgh band Young Fathers with Heavy Heavy. Young Fathers expressed their pride at being nominated, stating, “The three of us are extremely humbled by this nomination. It’s no secret we’re proud Scots and even prouder representing Scotland, so to be recognized with this nomination is a true honor. Thank you everyone who chose us to be included.”

The longlist will be narrowed down to a shortlist of 10 artists through a combination of public voting and judging. Members of the public will have the opportunity to vote for one album in an online poll from October 2 to 4, while the judges will select one other album. The overall winner will be announced at the Scottish Album of the Year awards ceremony on October 26 at the Albert Halls in Stirling.

The Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA) expressed their excitement about the SAY Award longlist, highlighting its inclusivity and the platform it provides for Scotland’s diverse music industry. Alan Morrison, head of music at Creative Scotland, emphasized the importance of albums as personal expressions of artists and praised this year’s longlist for its celebration of friendship, fatherhood, and various other themes.

Stirling Council leader Chris Kane expressed his pride in the nominated acts, some of whom have previously performed at Stirling’s renowned Tolbooth venue. The full list of longlisted albums includes a diverse range of artists such as Brooke Combe, Free Love, Joesef, and Su-a Lee.
