NFL star Bryce Young Reveals His Secret Gig as a DoorDash Delivery Guy During the Pandemic: Panthers Rookie Goes Unnoticed

  • Bryce Young took on a part-time job as a DoorDash delivery guy in 2020 while playing for Alabama
  • He believes he went unnoticed because he always wore a mask while working

Residents of Tuscaloosa, Alabama who ordered from DoorDash during the COVID-19 pandemic might have been unknowingly served by Heisman Trophy-winner Bryce Young.

During his college days at Alabama, Young needed some extra money and decided to work part-time as a delivery driver for the online food platform.

Despite being the most recognizable player in college football at the time, the unassuming 5-foot-10 Young went unnoticed, thanks to his habit of always wearing a mask while on the job.

‘Honestly, I would only have a mask on and a hoodie, and I would only accept drop-off orders,’ Young, the first overall pick in the NFL Draft, revealed. ‘For the most part, I never got recognized.’

‘It was before name, image, and license (NIL) deals,’ Young explained. ‘I just wanted to earn some extra money.’

Young went on to lead the Crimson Tide to a national championship and win the Heisman Trophy in the following season.

By the time Young finished his college career, the NCAA had lifted rules prohibiting student-athletes from profiting off their name, image, and likeness (NIL). Young quickly became the highest-paid star in college football, earning a reported $3.5 million in endorsement deals with companies such as Dr. Pepper, Nissan, and Subway.

Now, the 22-year-old Philadelphia native has signed a four-year contract with the Panthers worth $37.9 million, guaranteed.

With his mother Julie watching from the crowd, Young began his first training camp as the Panthers’ starting quarterback last week in Spartanburg.

He is now tasked with turning around a team that went 7-10 last season with Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield at the helm. Young and new head coach Frank Reich’s team will play their first preseason game of 2023 against the New York Jets on August 12.
