A 65-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting a minor is now facing felony charges.
Oscar William Alvarez, residing in Palm Desert, has been charged with multiple felony counts including engaging in oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child under 10, penetration by force, sodomy with a person under 18, and annoying a child after illegal entry of an inhabited building. Court records reveal that he is also facing five felony counts of lewd acts with a child under 14 through the use of force.
An arraignment was scheduled for Friday afternoon at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
Following a report of sexual assault involving a minor, deputies from the Palm Desert sheriff’s station swiftly responded on April 3, as informed by Sgt. Daniel Milbrandt of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Through the course of their investigation, Alvarez was identified as the suspect, leading to his arrest on Wednesday in the 39000 block of Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage.
Currently, he is held at the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio on $1 million bail, as documented in the inmate records.
