A devastating brush fire erupted on Friday in Lakeview, scorching approximately 2,815 acres of land. Unfortunately, containment is still at 0%. As a precautionary measure, an evacuation order was issued, affecting roughly 25 homes.
This particular fire, named the Rabbit Fire by the Riverside County Fire Department, was first reported around 3:25 p.m. The ignition point was located in the area of Jack Rabbit Trail and Gilman Springs Road, situated east of Mystic Lake and halfway between Moreno Valley and San Jacinto.
Multiple engine and hand crews from various departments quickly mobilized and arrived at the scene. They were met with rapidly spreading flames that were making their way through the open space.
During the incident, one man sustained burn injuries. It is believed that he was either inside or near a vehicle that caught fire.
The victim’s identity has not been revealed, but he was swiftly transported to Riverside University Health System-Medical Center in Moreno Valley to receive medical treatment.
In order to ensure public safety, California Highway Patrol officers and sheriff’s deputies redirected northbound traffic away from Gilman Springs Road, redirecting them onto Bridge Street.
Furthermore, additional road closures were implemented in the Lambs Canyon area of Highway 79, spanning from Gilman Springs Road to California Avenue.
As darkness fell, at approximately 9 p.m., an evacuation order was issued for the safety of approximately 25 homes located north of Gilman Springs Road.
