They also claim that Trump should be treated equally to other former presidents and government officials regarding the handling of government documents. However, all of those individuals willingly allowed the government access to their papers, whereas Trump failed to do so for two years.
Moreover, Trump and his supporters argue that his indictment is an example of government “weaponization” by Democrats. This argument is hypocritical, considering Trump’s attempts to use his power to investigate Biden and his family and his threats to do so again if he regains the presidency.

As it currently stands, Trump’s other criminal case involving hush-money payments is delayed until March. It is expected that he will do everything in his power to prolong this case as well, for personal gain. However, our nation’s well-being requires a speedy and public trial that upholds the principles of our Constitution and establishes that no one, including a former president, is exempt from the law.
