Official Announcement: Little Nightmares 3 Confirmed

If you have indulged in the Little Nightmares games, chances are that one of its terrifying creatures has stayed with you in your dreams. Personally, that long-necked lady from Little Nightmares II still gives me the creeps!

The first two games in this series were developed by Tarsier Studios, who have now moved on to new projects, leaving behind a rich legacy. Little Nightmares III is now in the capable hands of Supermassive Games, the same studio responsible for Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me, and The Quarry.

Take a look at the Little Nightmares III trailer below!

Granted, Little Nightmares III is a departure from Supermassive Games’ usual projects, although they did assist in the development of Little Nightmares II’s next-generation conversion.

When the announcement trailer premiered during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, devoted fans of this fantastic horror series knew they were in for a treat with the familiar spine-chilling soundtrack and nightmarish world. However, Little Nightmares III will introduce a new element compared to its predecessors, and that is campaign co-op.

For the first time in the series, players will have the option to experience the campaign alongside a friend. While having a companion may diminish the fear factor, it will be intriguing to see how the co-op puzzles will be integrated.

Furthermore, in large parts of the previous games, players were accompanied by an AI companion, making co-op a natural evolution. However, if co-op isn’t your cup of tea, you can still enjoy the entire campaign solo. The two new characters in Little Nightmares III are named Low and Alone.

“In Little Nightmares III, players will embark on the journey of Low and Alone, two friends seeking a way to escape the Nowhere,” as stated in the press release by Bandai Namco. “They will navigate through the Spiral, a perilous world that includes threats like the Monster Baby in the Necropolis. Each character possesses an iconic item – Low wields a bow and arrow, while Alone wields a wrench – which they will utilize to solve puzzles and aid them in their quest for freedom.”

In our review of Little Nightmares II, we praised the game, stating: “From its storytelling to the suffocating atmosphere it creates, everything comes together in an incredibly captivating package that horror enthusiasts simply cannot miss.”

Little Nightmares III is scheduled for release in 2024 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
