Closure of Train Station Ticket Offices
The Rail Delivery Group (RDG) has announced the closure of almost all train station ticket offices. Staff members will be relocated to station platforms and concourses, with ticket office facilities remaining open only at the busiest stations.
Posters will be displayed at stations to inform passengers about potential closures. The final decision on which offices will be closed will be made by the Government after a consultation. Although the exact timeline is unknown, the closure program is expected to span three years.
Reason Behind Aslef Strikes
Aslef members have initiated industrial action to demand a pay increase.
The union has criticized the government for not meeting its negotiation team consisting of General Secretary Mick Whelan, Assistant General Secretary Simon Weller, and Executive Committee President Dave Calfe.
According to the agreed post-pandemic framework of the Rail Industry Recovery Group, representatives of the employers, the Rail Delivery Group, last met with the union in April.
