OAKLAND, Calif. –
Matt Horn, chef and owner of the renowned Horn Barbecue in Oakland, has had a terrible week.
His restaurant on Mandela Parkway was vandalized with graffiti on Sunday night. Additionally, on Tuesday morning, his prep crew showed up to work to see a portion of the building in ruins. Horn suspects that the fire, which occurred on the previous night, was intentional; however, the Oakland Fire Department has not confirmed this. Hunt said it’s premature to declare that it’s arson at this early stage.
Horn, devastated by the damage, feels completely deflated. His popular restaurant has a significant reputation. He’s been featured in many national magazines and has received numerous awards. Still, the recent incidents have left Horn contemplating the future of his establishment. He’s considering running his business from a food truck on the property.
He is, however, determined to maintain his commitment to the community and is hosting his third annual turkey giveaway.
