Novak Djokovic made history once again as he ended the year by securing his seventh ATP Finals title in Turin, Italy, with a dominant straight-sets victory over home favorite Jannik Sinner.
In a match lasting 1 hour and 43 minutes, the top-ranked Djokovic claimed a 6-3, 6-3 triumph, solidifying his status as one of the greatest players of all time at the age of 36.
Djokovic’s remarkable year included winning his 10th Australian Open title, his 23rd Grand Slam tournament at the French Open, and the US Open, along with reaching the Wimbledon final.
“One of the best seasons I’ve had in my life, no doubt,” Djokovic said. “To crown it with a win against a hometown hero in Jannik, who has played amazing tennis this week, is phenomenal.”
Entering the final, Djokovic was tied with Roger Federer on six titles at the season-ending tournament for the year’s top eight players. With this victory, he now holds the record with seven ATP Finals titles.
This win against Sinner comes after Djokovic had already secured the year-end No. 1 ranking for a record-extending eighth time. He will also become the first player to hold the No. 1 ranking for 400 weeks, with Roger Federer the only other man to have surpassed the 300-week mark.
Notably, Djokovic’s performance in 2023 was only the second time in the past 15 years that a player has made the finals of all four Grand Slam tournaments and the ATP Finals, the last time being in 2015, when Djokovic achieved this remarkable feat.
The victory was a testament to Djokovic’s unwavering dominance in the world of tennis and his ability to consistently perform at the highest level, setting new records and leaving a lasting mark on the sport.
