Nine More Women Come Forward, Suing Bill Cosby for Alleged Decades-Old Sexual Assaults

A group of nine women has recently filed a lawsuit against Bill Cosby, accusing him of sexual assault. The lawsuit claims that Cosby used his immense power, fame, and prestige to exploit and victimize these women. The alleged incidents occurred between 1979 and 1992 in various locations including Las Vegas, Reno, and Lake Tahoe, in settings such as homes, dressing rooms, and hotels.

One of the women alleges that Cosby, posing as her acting mentor, deceived her into coming to Nevada from New York. Once in a hotel room, he drugged her with what he claimed to be non-alcoholic sparkling cider and proceeded to rape her.

The former “Cosby Show” star, now 85 years old, has been accused by over 60 women of rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment. He has consistently denied all allegations related to sexual crimes. Cosby was the first notable figure to be tried and convicted during the #MeToo movement. However, his conviction was later overturned by a higher court, leading to his release in 2021 after spending nearly three years in a Pennsylvania state prison. In a separate case this year, a Los Angeles jury awarded $500,000 to a woman who claimed Cosby sexually abused her at the Playboy Mansion when she was 16 years old in 1975.

CBS Las Vegas affiliate KLAS reported on detailed allegations made by several of the women involved in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit in Nevada comes in the wake of recent legislation eliminating the two-year statute of limitations for adults to file sexual abuse cases. Similar lawsuits have been filed in other states following the enactment of “lookback laws.”

Lise-Lotte Lublin, a native of Nevada and one of the plaintiffs, played a key role in advocating for this legal change. Previously, she had accused Cosby of drugging her and sexually assaulting her in a Las Vegas hotel in 1989.

It is important to note that the Associated Press does not disclose the identities of individuals who claim to be victims of sexual assault unless they choose to come forward publicly.

In a statement cited by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Lise-Lotte Lublin stated, “For years, I have fought for survivors of sexual assault, and today is the first time I will be able to fight for myself. With the new law change, I now have the ability to take my assailant Bill Cosby to court. My journey has just begun, but I am grateful for this opportunity to find justice.”

In California, a former Playboy model has also sued Cosby under a recently enacted law that extends the statute of limitations on sex abuse claims. The model alleges that Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her and another woman at his home in 1969.

In response to these legal developments, Cosby’s publicist, Andrew Wyatt, criticized such laws in a statement. He argued that these civil suits are driven by the women’s desire for attention and greed, rather than seeking justice for victims. Wyatt further emphasized that future allegations against Cosby will be thoroughly examined in both the court of public opinion and a courtroom.

The women involved in the latest lawsuit assert that Cosby manipulated them by leveraging his vast power, fame, and supposed interest in their careers to isolate and sexually assault them.
