Saints wide receiver, Michael Thomas, was reportedly observed being placed into a police car after a contractor in his neighborhood claimed that Thomas shoved him and issued threats over the parking spot for his vehicle.
It remains unclear whether Thomas was actually arrested. The Saints organization has confirmed that they are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering further details.
The contractor, Luis Cifuentes, recounted to WDSU in New Orleans that on Friday at approximately 5:30 p.m., Thomas reportedly threw two bricks at his truck and physically pushed him.
Cifuentes stated that he is the project manager for a home under construction near Thomas’s residence and that Thomas complained about the construction crew parking their vehicles on the street. He further mentioned that Thomas had made threatening remarks, including a statement that Cifuentes’ car would receive a “brick or a bullet” if parked in the location Thomas had instructed him to avoid.
“He drives up, and I see him get out, and I was like, ‘I don’t know what he’s doing, I’m just worried about my job site,’ and he walks up to this big pile of sand and grabs a brick, and he throws it at my car, and the guys are like, ‘hey, man your truck, your truck!’ ‘Oh, dude, he’s actually doing something,’ so, I grab my phone and I start recording him, and he grabbed my phone and grabbed and pushed me,” Cifuentes said.
Cifuentes conveyed his astonishment and disappointment at the behavior of Thomas, stating, “I told him, I was like, ‘man, listen, I cheered for you every Sunday, I never once thought I would have an issue like this with you.’ So, now we’re here,”
Despite dealing with injuries over the past three years, Thomas has managed to participate in all nine games this year and ranks third on the Saints in both catches (38) and receiving yards (439). There is currently no indication that the incident will affect Thomas’s ability to play in the upcoming game against Minnesota on Sunday.
