Neymar Reveals Candid Insights on Lionel Messi and Challenging Times at PSG: ‘Our Hellish Experience Together’

Neymar claims that he and former teammate Lionel Messi experienced a tumultuous time during their tenure with Paris Saint-Germain. The Brazilian superstar and the Argentine legend both departed from Parc des Princes this summer after an unsuccessful spell together in France.

Neymar made a move to Al-Hilal for approximately $97 million this summer, while Messi declined an offer from the Saudi Pro League and signed with Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami as a free agent. In an interview recorded in June and recently broadcasted on Globo’s Esporte Espetacular, the 31-year-old Neymar expressed his happiness for Messi’s success at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar last year but also conveyed sadness for their shared hardships in Paris.

“I was very happy for the year that he had,” Neymar said in the interview. “But at the same time, I was very sad because he experienced both sides of the coin. He reached the pinnacle with the Argentina team, winning everything in recent years, while at Paris, we went through hell, both he and I.”

Neymar and Messi formed a formidable partnership during their time at Barcelona, winning the UEFA Champions League together in 2015. However, they failed to replicate that success while playing for PSG. Messi openly admitted to struggling during his time with the French champions, while Neymar faced hostility from supporters and ultimately left the club.

“Leo left in a way that, from a soccer perspective, he did not deserve,” Neymar stated. “Considering his qualities and contributions, it was unfair. Anyone who knows him understands that he is a dedicated and passionate player. Surprisingly, soccer was fair to him when he won the World Cup. He deserves to end his career on that high note.”

Messi and Neymar were targeted by angry fans following PSG’s elimination in the Champions League round of 16 last season, and Neymar even encountered supporters at his residence. Despite their efforts, Neymar believes that he and Messi were unlucky during their time at the Ligue 1 club.

“We were disappointed because we gave our all,” Neymar expressed. “We wanted to win championships and make history together. Our reunion in Paris was driven by that goal. Unfortunately, we fell short.”

Despite facing criticism for his behavior and dealing with numerous injuries during his unsuccessful stint in Paris, Neymar still aims to leave a lasting impact on the world of soccer.

“Throughout my career, I have always been authentic,” he declared. “I have never been afraid to take risks and I have remained true to myself. I have made mistakes along the way, but I have always strived to be a player who brings positive change wherever I go.”
