Negotiations Show Signs of Progress, Say SAG-AFTRA Leaders

The leaders of SAG-AFTRA are expressing optimism about reaching a landmark deal with studios, networks, and streamers to avoid a writers’ strike that is on the verge of shutting down scripted production.

In a video message to members, SAG-AFTRA National President Fran Drescher stated, “We are engaged in highly productive negotiations that are specifically focused on the key issues that you have told us are of utmost importance. We are standing strong, and we are confident that we will achieve a groundbreaking agreement.”

Drescher added that she couldn’t divulge the details because of the confidentiality surrounding the negotiations.

Drescher and Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland were pictured standing in front of a room filled with negotiators sitting at rows of tables.

“We remain optimistic that we can bring the studios, networks, and streamers on board to achieve a fair agreement that recognizes your invaluable contributions to this industry,” Crabtree-Ireland said. “However, we have a limited amount of time left before our contract expires.”

If an agreement or decision to prolong negotiations isn’t reached, the window will close on Friday.

Over the past ten days, the leaders of SAG-AFTRA have been in discussions with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, according to Crabtree-Ireland.

“We will keep you updated as the situation develops,” Drescher assured members.
