North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum is currently on the presidential debate stage, contending with his Republican counterparts, all while managing a painful ruptured Achilles tendon.
Following Wednesday night’s debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, Burgum candidly discussed his recovery and playfully took a dig at New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who suffered a similar injury in the opening game of the 2023 NFL season.

“This is the first time I’ve walked since stepping on stage at the last debate. I’ve been following a weight-bearing restriction on my Achilles. However, we’re making a rapid recovery,” Burgum shared with Fox News Digital from the spin room. “And, of course, I’m thrilled to have made it further into the season than Aaron Rodgers. I wish him well. It took Kevin Durant 12 months to return to the court, but I hope to be ahead of that schedule.”
Burgum disclosed that there was an added sting because Jets center Connor McGovern hails from the state he represents.
