Nigel Farage has accused NatWest of prolonging its review into the closure of his bank account, alleging that they are deliberately delaying the process.

The banking sector continues to face repercussions from the debanking scandal, which arose when Coutts abruptly closed the former Ukip leader’s account due to his political views. Consequently, Dame Alison Rose resigned as the chief executive of NatWest, the parent company of Coutts, last month.

Farage claims that NatWest is taking an excessively long time to investigate the situation, as there is no set deadline for internal investigations. He argues that rules were violated when Dame Alison shared details of his finances with a BBC journalist.

He expressed his dissatisfaction, stating that NatWest has been stalling and not providing him with adequate information. He also wants to meet with the bank’s interim boss to address the issue. Farage believes that various establishments are colluding to delay resolving the matter indefinitely. Since there is no set deadline for the review report, it could be months before any progress is made.

NatWest defended their response time, stating that it is a normal process for complex requests to take longer.

According to The Mail on Sunday, banks are closing over 1,000 accounts every working day. It is estimated that nearly 90,000 individuals, including MPs and other public figures requiring additional scrutiny, have been designated as “politically exposed persons” by banks.
