Musk’s X Update: Verified Users Now Have the Option to Conceal Checkmarks

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter and now owned by Elon Musk, has introduced a new feature for its subscription tier service. Users who pay $8 a month for X Blue (previously Twitter Blue) can now choose to hide their blue checkmarks, according to an update on the platform’s help center page.

By hiding the checkmark, users can remove it from their profile and posts. However, it’s important to note that it may still appear in certain areas and some features could reveal that the user has an active subscription.

This update comes after the platform faced criticism for changing the way it awarded checkmarks. Previously, the checkmark indicated that a user was verified and was given to various public figures, including media personalities and politicians.

In April, the platform started removing checkmarks from “legacy accounts,” causing confusion among users. This change was implemented following a brief trial in November, which received backlash due to concerns about the potential chaos if users couldn’t verify the authenticity of an account with a checkmark.

Another modification made by Musk to the Blue level subscription is limiting two-factor authentication to paying users only. Previously, this security feature was available to all users.

Recently, Musk rebranded the platform as X, with the vision of it evolving into his “everything app.”

Overall, these updates demonstrate X’s commitment to providing additional options and features for its subscribers.
