June 16 (UPI) — A Kansas City, Missouri hotel has recently made headlines by agreeing to honor a 40-year-old gift certificate discovered by a local couple inside their wedding album.
Tim and Melinda O’Brien recall spending their wedding night in 1983 at the now-defunct Muehlebach Hotel.
As the couple prepares to celebrate their upcoming 40th anniversary on June 25, they stumbled upon a 40-year-old gift certificate to the hotel.
“While going through our cherished wedding album, I happened to stumble upon the certificate,” Tim O’Brien shared with KMBC-TV. “I was curious to see if the hotel would still honor it.”
The Muehlebach Hotel, an establishment that originally opened its doors back in 1915, merged with the Kansas City Marriott Downtown complex in 1996, thus becoming a part of it.
The hotel has gracefully decided to honor the 40-year-old gift certificate, ensuring that the bearer can utilize it annually on the month of their wedding anniversary to enjoy a stay at the same price as their original wedding night, which amounts to $38 in this particular case.
“Though I cannot take credit for this ingenious marketing initiative, we do offer rooms that are comparable in quality,” expressed the hotel manager, Dustin Holcumbrink.
The O’Briens eagerly anticipate utilizing the certificate on Sunday, precisely on the 40th anniversary of their unforgettable wedding night.
