Oscar-winning Actress Michelle Yeoh Joins International Olympic Committee
In a recent development, renowned actress Michelle Yeoh has been elected as a member of the prestigious International Olympic Committee (IOC). This decision was made after the IOC voted in eight new members, bringing the total to 107 individuals hailing from various backgrounds such as royal families, sports officials, athletes (both current and former), and notable figures from politics and industry.
The IOC members actively participate in annual meetings, where they play a crucial role in approving recommended candidates for hosting future Olympic Games. Assembled in Paris next July, they could be presented with the opportunity to amend Olympic rules to allow IOC President Thomas Bach to seek a third consecutive leadership term in 2025, extending the current 12-year limit.
In addition to her remarkable success in the film industry, Michelle Yeoh has been a prominent advocate for various causes. Her latest accolade coincides with her Oscar win for Best Actress in the critically acclaimed movie, “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” Notably, Yeoh also represents her home country Malaysia at the United Nations.
Furthermore, Yeoh has made substantial contributions to the global road safety campaign, working alongside her husband Jean Todt, former head of the Ferrari team in Formula One racing. Drawing from his vast experience as the president of the motorsports governing body, known as FIA, Todt’s partnership with Yeoh emphasizes their commitment to improving road safety worldwide.
