Similar to Roald Dahl’s observation (Letters, 13 August), EM Forster demonstrated remarkable foresight in his 1909 short story, “The Machine Stops,” predicting the rise of AI and technology. I distinctly remember discussing this story with a year 11 class back in the early 1980s and dismissing it as implausible fantasy.
