- Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated film “Barbie” will feature Michael Cera.
- Cera, in an interview with People, revealed that he wasn’t part of the group chat for the Barbies and Kens because he doesn’t own an iPhone.
- Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu are among the actors who will portray Ken in the film.
During the filming of “Barbie,” Michael Cera mentioned not being included in the group chat.
In an interview with People, Cera explained that the reason for his exclusion was his lack of an iPhone. The group chat was created by the Kens, referring to the actors who portrayed the doll in the film, after Margot Robbie hosted a Barbie-only sleepover.
According to Cera, his character Allan is meant to be in his own little world. He jokingly mentioned that even if he had an iPhone, he wouldn’t belong in the group chat. Cera revealed that Greta Gerwig gave him a picture disc of NSYNC’s “No Strings Attached” as a gift, which influenced his character’s backstory.
In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cera expressed his aversion to smartphones and social media, citing a fear of losing control over his waking life. He recalled a meal with a friend who was constantly occupied with his new Blackberry, which made him feel lonely and bored.
“Barbie,” directed by Greta Gerwig, boasts a star-studded cast. Margot Robbie takes on the role of Barbie, while Ryan Gosling portrays Ken. The film also features different versions of the classic duo, such as President Barbie played by Issa Rae and Weird Barbie portrayed by Kate McKinnon. Simu Liu will portray a version of Ken in the film.
