Meta set to unveil its own Twitter rival this week

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is poised to launch a revolutionary “text-based conversation app” this week, aiming to compete directly with Twitter.

The app, called Threads, is featured on its website, which displays a countdown to Thursday morning and provides a link to the app’s Apple App Store page.

The App Store page for Threads describes it as a platform where communities convene to discuss a wide range of topics, from current interests to upcoming trends.

“No matter what you’re passionate about, you’ll be able to connect directly with your favorite creators and like-minded individuals or establish a devoted following of your own, sharing your ideas, opinions, and creativity with the world,” the page states.

During a recent companywide meeting, Meta’s chief product officer, Chris Cox, reportedly referred to Threads as “our answer to Twitter,” as reported by The Verge.

“We’ve been listening to creators and public figures who want a well-managed platform that they can trust and depend on for distribution,” Cox explained, according to The Verge.

Twitter has experienced significant turmoil since billionaire Elon Musk acquired the social media giant last year.

Musk has introduced a paid subscription service, replacing Twitter’s traditional verification process, relaxed content moderation rules, temporarily suspended the accounts of various journalists, and reinstated accounts of previously banned individuals, including former President Trump.

Most recently, Musk implemented temporary restrictions on the number of tweets users can view per day. Verified accounts are limited to 6,000 posts, while unverified accounts can view up to 600 posts. New unverified accounts have a further limit of 300 posts.
