When it comes to the relationship between Meryl Streep and Don Gummer, things are complicated.
According to Streep’s spokesperson, the couple has broken up and has been separated for over 6 years, as reported by Page Six on October 20.
The statement shared by the representative stated, “Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years. While they will always care for each other, they have chosen to live separate lives.”
Meryl Streep, the Oscar-winning actress, and Don Gummer, a sculptor, got married in 1978 and have four children together: Henry (43), Mamie (40), Grace (37), and Louisa (32).
Jada Pinkett Smith is reminiscing about the deep emotional connection she shared with Tupac Shakur.
The last time Streep and Gummer were seen together publicly was at the 2018 Academy Awards.
Their love story dates back several decades. Gummer even accompanied Streep to her first Oscars in 1979 when they were newlyweds. Though she didn’t thank him onstage in 1983 when she won an Oscar for Sophie’s Choice, Streep made sure to express her gratitude in her acceptance speech after winning her third Academy Award in 2012.
“First, I’m going to thank Don,” she said, “because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech they play him out with the music, and I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives, you’ve given me.”
Fascinating Facts About Meryl Streep
Both Streep and Gummer attended Yale University, and their daughters have also entered the world of Hollywood. Grace has appeared in The Newsroom, American Horror Story, and Frances Ha; Mamie in The Good Fight, The Good Wife, and The Lifeguard; and Louisa in The Gilded Age.
Their son, Henry, pursued a career in music under the stage name Henry Wolfe.
In an interview with The Daily News, Henry expressed his concerns about being overshadowed by his famous mother. He stated, “The fact that my mom is who she is can be overshadowing. Sometimes I worry that my story isn’t good enough. Sure, my mom is part of the story, and I don’t get upset when people ask me about her, but I wish I had something that could overshadow that and create a more compelling storyline.”
He added, “There are a certain amount of assumptions that go along with that, which tend to not be fair, like the recognition somehow helps me. But it also hurts because people start to think that I don’t work hard and they don’t take me seriously.”
Meryl Streep, at 74 years old, holds the record for the most Oscar nominations of any actor, with a total of 21 nominations. Some of her notable roles include The Post, Into the Woods, The Iron Lady, The Devil Wears Prada, Out of Africa, and Kramer vs. Kramer.
