Initial tests indicate that the tragic death of Matthew Perry, the beloved actor known for his role on “Friends,” was not caused by a fentanyl or meth overdose, according to reports.
Perry, who passed away at the age of 54, died from an apparent drowning incident at his California home.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that initial tests showed no presence of fentanyl or meth in Perry’s system at the time of his death. More comprehensive tests are currently being conducted as part of the toxicology process, which may take several months to determine the official cause of death.
However, the cause of death has been listed as “deferred” for now.
The Los Angeles Police Department has been contacted for comment.
Sources have revealed that prescription medications were found at Perry’s property, which will be taken into account during the review, as it is common practice.
Authorities received a phone call reporting that Perry was found unresponsive in his hot tub.
The identity of the caller, who reported Perry’s unresponsiveness in the hot tub, has not been disclosed by authorities. However, TMZ reported that it was Perry’s assistant who made the call after returning to the home.
LAPD Capt. Scot Williams, who leads the Robbery Homicide Division, stated that foul play is not currently suspected, although the cause of death may not be determined for some time.
