Are you a Windows user?

Let’s simplify things with some keyboard shortcuts that you need to know.

Pro-tip: Learning a new shortcut may take some time, but it’s worth it. Just like how you adapted to using Ctrl + C to copy and Ctrl + V to paste, you’ll be able to use these shortcuts effortlessly with a bit of practice. Try out one or more of the tricks below, use them a few times, and soon they’ll become second nature.

  • Windows + Shift + S: This combination brings up the screenshot tool on your Windows PC. Simply drag the box that appears to take a screenshot of whatever you want. It’s much easier to send a screenshot (and even annotate it to highlight something) than trying to explain it in words.
  • When searching for a file, hit the Windows key and start typing the name. That’s it! This simple shortcut saves significant time and effort.
  • Press the Windows key and “.” (period key) simultaneously to access the emoji picker. You can easily insert emojis, symbols, and special characters into your documents, messages, or any other text field. The emoji picker is a versatile tool.

For Mac users:

If you use your laptop for both work and personal life or share your MacBook with someone else, there’s a brilliant way to keep your accounts separate.

Set up different user accounts attached to different fingerprints. You can assign specific fingers to your work profile and personal account. For instance, you can assign your pointer finger to the work profile and your ring finger to your personal account. If you’re sharing the MacBook with your spouse, you can link your fingerprints to your own accounts.

To set up these accounts, go to the Apple menu, then select System Settings > Touch ID & Password. You can save up to five fingerprints, with three active ones. Additionally, from this screen, you can customize what Touch ID can do, including unlocking the computer, using Apple Pay, and auto-filling passwords.

  • Control + Command + spacebar: This handy shortcut opens the Character Viewer, allowing you to browse and insert special characters, symbols, and emojis into your documents, emails, texts, or any other text field. It works in most programs and is much simpler than visiting a website to copy emojis.
