“Fantasy Football,” the new film, skillfully showcases the natural talents of its cast.
Marsai Martin embodies the essence of a girl-boss as she portrays Callie Coleman, a tech-savvy young woman whose father’s NFL career leads him to the Atlanta Falcons team.
Known for her role in the film, Martin’s production company brings us this family-friendly movie. Furthermore, Martin achieved a Guinness World Record in 2020 as the youngest Hollywood executive producer to work on a major production.
CNN recently had the opportunity to speak with Martin and her co-stars Omari Hardwick (Bobby Coleman), Rome Flynn (Anderson Fisher), and the film’s director Anton Cropper during their appearance at a Falcons game held at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Interestingly, the stadium served as a familiar location for several scenes in the movie.
The plot revolves around Callie’s father, played by Hardwick, who appears to be at the end of his football career. However, a twist occurs when his daughter discovers her ability to control his movements through the Madden football video game.
Martin believes her character’s friendship with the robotics club members at her new school brings more than just entertainment to the film. It carries a powerful message about diversity in technology.
“I’ve encountered many girls who are passionate about technology and STEM fields, including Black girls coding,” Martin expressed. “It’s crucial to highlight this because representation matters.”
Hardwick, on the other hand, saw the film as an opportunity to embrace his football background.
Before gaining fame for his roles like James “Ghost” St. Patrick on “Power,” Hardwick played as a defensive back at the University of Georgia and even tried out with the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent.
“It feels incredible to be back in my hometown,” Hardwick shared. “Although I never had the chance to play for the Falcons, this film allowed me to showcase my skills.”
