During an all-hands meeting on Thursday, Founder and CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that artificial intelligence (AI) tools would soon be integrated across all of the company’s products. He gave a demonstration of the ChatGPT-like features that will modify pictures via text prompts on Instagram, and also plans to implement several chatbots with different conversation personas. Most AI tools will be directed at consumers, while some will be reserved for internal use. One such example is a productivity assistant called Metamate that uses information from company systems to perform tasks and answer queries. Meta had been slow in rolling out AI tools compared to other major tech firms but announced last month that it was testing tools that use AI to generate image backgrounds and variations of written copy for its ad campaigns. Zuckerberg was unfazed by Apple’s foray into virtual reality, stating that while Apple’s demos showed a person sitting on their couch alone, it did not align with Meta’s vision of the future of computing.
