Marine Admits Guilt in Case of Deadly Punch

A former Marine from San Diego, aged 21, has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors on charges relating to a fatal altercation that occurred in a Dana Point restaurant on St. Patrick’s Day. The defendant, Jack Griffin Isaacson, initially faced a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter, but he has now pleaded guilty to a felony count of battery resulting in serious bodily injury. His sentencing, originally scheduled for July 12 of next year, has been delayed due to legal technicalities surrounding the reduction of the charge to a misdemeanor. Isaacson will start serving a six-month term of home confinement on August 10.

The incident occurred while Isaacson was stationed at Camp Pendleton. He punched Michael Terry, 38, of Laguna Niguel during a fight at Beach Harbor Pizza on Golden Lantern. Terry was taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The altercation ensued after Terry, who was reportedly intoxicated and behaving aggressively towards other customers, confronted Isaacson, a skilled boxer.

Isaacson’s defense attorney, John Barnett, expressed remorse on his client’s behalf and acknowledged the tragic outcome of the altercation.
