NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Country music sensation Maren Morris has filed a divorce petition from her husband Ryan Hurd, citing “irreconcilable differences” after five years of marriage.
The divorce complaint was submitted by Morris in Nashville circuit court on October 2nd, stating that the couple has been separated since that date. The two tied the knot in March 2018.
Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd share a 3-year-old son named Hayes, who has resided with them in Nashville since birth.
According to the filing, Morris and Hurd “are unable to live together successfully as husband and wife and are experiencing irreconcilable differences in their marriage.” Morris has also completed a parenting seminar, which is usually required in divorce cases.
Representatives for Morris and Hurd have not yet provided a comment regarding the divorce filing.
Maren Morris, a Grammy-award winning artist hailing from Texas, is known for her platinum country hits such as “The Bones,” “My Church,” and her 2018 dance hit “The Middle” with EDM DJ Zedd. Through her music, Morris has showcased her versatility and reached audiences outside the country genre.
In 2019, she became part of the country music supergroup The Highwomen. Recently, Morris has decided to distance herself from country music.
“I felt like I cannot participate in the really toxic aspects of this institution anymore,” Morris revealed in an interview with the New York Times’ Popcast podcast.
She has been outspoken about her sexuality, femininity, politics, and has acknowledged country music’s racist history.
Ryan Hurd, originally from Chicago, started his career as a songwriter, penning songs for top country artists including Tim McGraw, Dierks Bentley, and Blake Shelton. One of his notable contributions is the 2014 No. 1 country radio hit, “Lonely Tonight,” performed by Shelton and featuring Ashley Monroe.
Hurd has been collaborating with Morris since her debut major label album, “Hero,” was released in 2016. His solo album, “Pelago,” was released in 2021, featuring a successful single titled “Chasing After You” with Morris.
