A Pennsylvania woman, Mandie Reusch, 35, has been arrested and charged with aiding her ex-boyfriend’s suicide through a series of disturbing messages that encouraged him to take his own life. District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli described the messages as “heinous and graphic.” Reusch was released on $150,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 27.
According to the affidavit obtained by HuffPost, Reusch began harassing Kevin Metzger, 37, through WhatsApp while he was away at military training. She made threats that he would never see their daughter again and claimed that another man would take his place as her father. In one message, Reusch allegedly wrote, “I hope” for the child’s “sake that you do kill yourself. She would be better off not even knowing you.”
The harassment continued, with Reusch frequently mentioning her involvement with another man in explicit detail. She even referenced Metzger’s deceased dog in some of the messages. After Metzger sent her $200, Reusch claimed to have caused extensive damage to his property and told him to kill himself, saying, “Go kill yourself and be with your dog.”
Metzger reported the messages to the police, who initially charged Reusch with harassment. However, the charge was dropped following Metzger’s death. Irwin police, who handled the case, did not comment on the matter.
In the days leading up to Father’s Day, Reusch repeatedly told Metzger that he would not be allowed to see their daughter. Concerned for his well-being, a friend asked the police to conduct a welfare check on him. Tragically, officers discovered Metzger’s lifeless body at his home.
District Attorney Ziccarelli condemned Reusch’s actions, stating that the level of bullying, harassment, and threats reached criminal proportions. She extended her condolences to Metzger’s family and emphasized that suicide is never the solution.
Kevin Metzger served in the U.S. Army for nearly two decades and reenlisted in the Army Reserves after his discharge. His obituary described him as a selfless friend who cherished his daughter above all else.
