Man Who Filed $5 Million Lawsuit Against Cardi B Now Owes Rapper $350,000

  • Rapper Cardi B has emerged victorious in her legal battle over the use of a tiger tattoo on her mixtape cover, winning $350,000 in attorney fees.
  • The lawsuit was filed by Kevin Michael Brophy, who claimed that a similar tiger tattoo on the album cover infringed upon his own tattoo.
  • After months of legal proceedings, Brophy agreed to pay the $350,000 to Cardi B.

Rapper Cardi B has been awarded $350,000 in attorney’s fees from Kevin Michael Brophy, who accused her of using his tiger tattoo without permission for her album cover.

The legal dispute has finally concluded after a lengthy period of court proceedings, with Judge Cormac J. Carney ruling in favor of Cardi B.

As part of the agreement, Brophy will pay the aforementioned amount along with 10% interest per year, and both parties have agreed to no longer pursue any further legal action.

This development was first reported by trial lawyer Meghann Cuniff.

In the initial trial, Cardi B testified in Santa Ana, California, defending herself against Brophy’s claims that her use of the slightly-altered tiger image on the album cover devalued his original tattoo artwork.

Cardi B’s legal team argued that the use of the art fell under fair use, and that Brophy had not suffered any damages as a result of the alleged infringement.

A jury sided with Cardi B, and although Brophy requested a reevaluation of the ruling, Judge Carney upheld the jury’s decision, stating that audiences would not mistake the man on the album art for Brophy.

Brophy’s attempt for a new trial was later withdrawn due to the agreement reached between the two parties.

Insider reached out to lawyers representing Cardi B and Brophy for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
