Authorities announced on Monday that a 33-year-old motorist who tragically lost his life in a vehicle collision in Desert Hot Springs may have experienced a medical emergency before the accident.
The collision involving two vehicles took place around 9:50 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Pierson Boulevard and Golden Eagle Way, according to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department.
Upon investigation, it was determined that a silver Toyota Camry, driven by William Shack IV of Desert Hot Springs, was heading westbound on Pierson and approaching the traffic light at the intersection of Golden Eagle Way. The Camry collided with the back of a white Honda Odyssey that was waiting at the light in the westbound lanes of Pierson.
Authorities found Shack unresponsive and immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday at the Desert Regional Medical Center, as confirmed by the coroner’s office.
Based on their investigation, authorities believe that Shack experienced a medical emergency prior to colliding with the Odyssey. The Odyssey was occupied by a 40-year-old driver and a 5-year-old child, both from Desert Hot Springs, who did not sustain any injuries requiring medical attention.
