A 23-year-old resident of Beaumont, California, has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in Irvine. The entire incident was captured on surveillance video, providing strong evidence against the accused.
Brandon Dybdahl, the defendant, pleaded not guilty during his arraignment at the jail courtroom in Santa Ana. He is facing charges of false imprisonment and sexual battery, both of which are considered misdemeanors. His pretrial hearing is scheduled for June 29 at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach.
The Irvine Police Department apprehended Dybdahl in Laguna Hills at around 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday. The arrest was made in connection with the assault that took place near the intersection of Graduate and Scholarship on the previous Saturday. The police recovered a white sedan, which was seen in the surveillance footage of the incident, in Dybdahl’s possession at the time of his arrest.
According to Sergeant Karie Davies, Dybdahl is a transient individual who was temporarily staying with family friends. They were unaware of the alleged attack and were simply trying to assist him. The surveillance footage showed a man wearing a T-shirt and shorts approaching the woman from behind as she crossed the street. The suspect forcefully grabbed the woman but eventually fled. He got into a white 2006-2012 Nissan Sentra, as described by the police.
Additionally, Dybdahl has an outstanding warrant for a hit-and-run collision, which further complicates his legal situation, according to Sergeant Davies.
