A suspect in custody for the unprovoked fatal stabbing of a 23-year-old passenger on a Metro B (Red) Line train in downtown Los Angeles.
Randy Nash was apprehended around 9:10 p.m. on Saturday near the 1000 block of West 85th Street in South Los Angeles. The authorities have booked him on suspicion of murder.
The incident took place at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Thursday. The suspect approached Jesse Rodriguez, the victim, and without any warning or provocation, stabbed him in the chest.
Transit Services Division officers present at the Pershing Square Station provided immediate aid to Rodriguez until paramedics arrived. Sadly, Rodriguez succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The suspect, Randy Lamale Nash, aged 31, fled the scene on foot and was last seen exiting the underground station through the stairs.
According to the sheriff’s inmate records, Nash currently remains in LAPD custody with a bail set at $2 million.
