Man and woman face charges in deadly drive-by shooting in Long Beach

District Attorney George Gascón announced on Monday that a man and a woman have been charged with murder in connection with a tragic drive-by shooting in Long Beach. The incident resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy and the injury of a 14-year-old girl.

The suspects, Reshawn Jonae Strother and Destenee Sheree Scipio, along with an unidentified third person, drove to the intersection of Hill Street and Lewis Avenue on March 9. There, they unleashed a barrage of gunshots at the victims, taking the life of the young boy and causing harm to the girl, according to Gascón.

Strother, aged 20, is believed to be the shooter. He faces charges of murder, attempted murder (three counts), conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful firearm activity, carrying a loaded firearm, and assault with a semi-automatic firearm.

Scipio stands accused of murder, attempted murder (two counts), and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Both suspects are currently in custody, with Strother held on $6 million bail and Scipio on $4 million bail, as stated by the Los Angeles County jail records.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 21 at the Long Beach Courthouse.

Commenting on the case, Gascón expressed his condemnation of the violence perpetrated by the accused. He emphasized the need to hold them accountable for their actions and ensure justice for the victims, their families, and the community at large.
